This policy explains what personal data 1academy (“1academy”) collects when you use 1academy.in, why, and the choices you have. We process personal data in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules.
1. Data we collect
You give us:
- Account details: name, phone number and/or email, password (stored only as a secure hash).
- Study profile: date of birth, gender, whether you are a school, college or exam aspirant, your university / board / exam, programme, semester or class, college name, passing year, and subjects of interest.
- Comments, ratings, reviews and messages you send to support.
- Billing details for invoices (name, email, phone, and GSTIN if you add one).
Collected when you use the Platform:
- Learning activity: items viewed, video progress, bookmarks, test attempts, answers and scores.
- Usage and device data: pages visited, approximate location (state / city from your network), browser and device type, and a random browser identifier stored on your device.
- Payment status from our payment partner. We never receive your card, UPI or bank credentials.
2. How we use it
- To create and secure your account, sign you in with one-time passwords, and prevent fraud and account sharing.
- To give you access to what you bought or enrolled in, track your progress, and show test results, ranks and solutions.
- To personalise the Platform: your For You page, recommended notes, videos and tests for your university and semester.
- To process payments, issue GST invoices and handle refunds.
- To send service messages (OTP, receipts, exam reminders) and, if you agreed, updates and offers. You can opt out of marketing at any time.
- To improve the Platform using aggregated statistics, and to meet legal obligations.
- Course videos show a watermark with your phone or email and an account code to discourage piracy.
3. Consent and legal grounds
We process your data on the basis of your consent, given when you sign up, and for legitimate uses allowed by law, such as completing a purchase you asked for or meeting tax and legal requirements. You can withdraw consent at any time (see Your rights); some features may stop working without the data they need.
5. Storage, security and retention
Data is stored on secure servers. Paid files are delivered through short-lived signed links, passwords are hashed, and access to personal data is limited to staff who need it.
We keep account data while your account is active. If you delete your account we erase or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except records we must keep by law (such as invoices, kept for the period required by tax law).
6. Cookies and local storage
We use your browser’s local storage to keep you signed in, remember your selected university and semester, and hold a random identifier for analytics. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Clearing your browser storage signs you out and resets these preferences.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you a summary of the personal data we hold and how it is used;
- correct or update it (most of it you can edit yourself in your profile);
- erase it and close your account;
- stop marketing messages, or withdraw consent;
- nominate a person to exercise these rights if you die or become unable to.
Write to support@1academy.in from your registered phone or email. We reply within 30 days.
8. Children
Students under 18 may use the Platform only with the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not use children’s data for behavioural advertising or tracking beyond what is needed for their studies. A parent or guardian can contact us to review or delete a child’s data.
